General Description

Prerequisite: Above average reading, writing, math and communication skills, problem solving skills, and computer skills

This course is an introduction to the automotive industry including automotive history, safety practices, shop equipment and tools, vehicle subsystems, service publications, fasteners, professional responsibilities, and automotive maintenance.


This course is an introduction to automotive maintenance and repair.  It is a training program. This includes:

  • Careers in the Automotive Industry
  • Technician Certification
  • Shop Safety
  • Environmental and Hazardous Materials
  • Fasteners, Hand and Power Tools
  • Vehicle Identification and Service Information
  • Minor Vehicle Service and Repair
  • Basic Electrical, Brakes, Tires and Wheels
  • Steering and Suspension

Automobiles are an essential part of our everyday lives. This course is beneficial to all students. Developing automotive technology skills will help you throughout the rest of your life. Today’s automotive repair industry has taken on a new sophistication. It requires advanced training and diagnostic skills. Automotive classes lend themselves to hands-on learning. Students will understand the theory and operation of an automobile system, proper procedures for diagnosing and repairing automobiles and automobile systems. ASE Education Foundations competencies are integrated into the curriculum through projects and assignments.
