Prerequisite: Drawing 1-2, Art & Design, Photography, Digital & Commercial, Video Productions, or Woodworking/CAD/Digital Media/Technology. This is not an introductory art class: students are expected to enter this class having basic drawing and technology skills.
This course is designed for students to apply creative and digital art making techniques to the interpretation of technical and commercial designs. Students will be instructed in the design process, computer-assisted art and design using Adobe Creative Suite programs, printmaking, concept sketching, color theory, typography, studio techniques, communication skills, and commercial art business operations. This art class integrates art history, theory, and the elements and principles of design with art production.
Units of instruction may include fashion graphics, logos, posters, advertising and packaging design, illustration, and business cards. This course is designed to teach an appreciation for the techniques, vocabulary, problem solving methods, research, analysis, and applications of design used in creating meaningful art. This art class integrates art history and the elements and principles of design with art production. Emphasis is on two-dimensional and digital art. Units will include: style abstraction, still-life drawing, portrait/life drawing, design and compositional techniques, personal voice and thematic work, and creativity development. Career opportunities are explored throughout the year, and students will build a digital portfolio online.
