Thank you to the school counselors across ESD for all you do to help develop successful students. This week is National School Counseling Week and we recognize and celebrate the difference ESD school counselors make in students' lives, in and out of school.

Please join the Enumclaw School District in honoring the historical significance of Black history through February. In addition to the United States, Black History Month is celebrated in Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. From the incredible achievements of Black trailblazers and the resilient spirit and historical impact around the world - let’s take time to honor the accomplishments and challenges unique to African Americans throughout history.

Don't forget that the EMS Learning Lounge is open on January 23rd and 24th this week! If you need to finish up some end-of-semester work or need help on an assignment, ask your teacher to sign you up for the Learning Lounge. You will meet in room C6 from 2:35 - 3:40 PM during your session. You must have guardian approval and a plan for how to get home!

Our amazing EMS Leadership and EMS Choir students did an incredible job leading our MLK JR. Day assembly at EMS on Friday! Even though an unexpected snow delay postponed the assembly by a week, students still had the chance to learn about the incredible work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this week. Great job, Timberwolves!

The district has received reports of issues with call quality (static) on our phone lines that are provided by Lumen, formerly known as CenturyLink.
Lumen will be doing work on our phone lines this afternoon at 3:30 pm.
This work will be "disruptive" and could lead to calls dropping or not going through for calls in and out of the district.
Internal phone calls from building to building, or within building will not be impacted.
Thanks in advance for your patience while we work with Lumen to resolve the issue.

REMINDER: There is no school on Friday, October 13, 2023 for a Teacher Directed Day.

Public Service Announcement:
Beginning at 11:20 a.m. today, it is expected that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a nationwide test of its Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts. The test will send emergency alert messages and/or sounds to radios, televisions. and consumer cell phones.
While this emergency test has nothing to do with the schools, due to the timing, it may disrupt the classroom environment. We are broadening the reach of FEMA's plan for nationwide testing so that our staff, students, and parents are aware that this test is happening.
All wireless phones should receive the message only once. The following can be expected from the nationwide WEA test:
Beginning at approximately 11:20 a.m., cell towers will broadcast the test for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, WEA-compatible wireless phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA, should be capable of receiving the test message.
For consumers, the message that appears on their phones will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
To help ensure that these alerts are accessible to the entire public, including people with disabilities, the alerts are accompanied by a unique tone and vibration.

Friday, September 8, 2023; 9:13am: Enumclaw High School is in Modified Lockdown
Enumclaw High School is currently in a modified lockdown due to rumors and reports of a potential threat from an individual not on our campus. During a modified lockdown, no one will be allowed in or out, so meetings at the school may need to be rescheduled. Modified Lockdowns are precautionary. Local law enforcement is responding. We will update families as soon as information is available. Maintaining the safety of students and staff is the priority at this time.
